Bar (at 84) insisted on driving herself to my mum's 90th birthday party in Berkhamsted, even though she'd never been before. She always struck me as a thoroughly can do person - in fact all of the cousins of that generation were pretty remarkable. At the end of the party my daughter Natalie offered to drive back to the M1 so that Bar could follow her - which she did, overtaking Natalie as soon as they got there and zooming off into the ditance.
